Breaking News: Done Deal - A. Johnson for Turner, Holmes
A tentative agreement was struck between two teams needing to shake things up. Golden University Gryphons and Twin City Tech Raiders have agreed to a three player deal, in which Michael 'The Burner' Turner and Santonio Holmes head to Golden in exchange for Andre Johnson. Wideout Antonio Bryant becomes a cap casualty and has been cut from GU.
Twin City Tech's lack of receiving production (we're talking to you, Randy Moss) led 2007 FAC-10 AD of the Year, Matt Austin, to look to other conference teams and make Turner expendable. With Joseph Addai, Clinton Portis, and the emerging Felix Jones already in the backfield, Austin put a feeler out to Golden regarding a swap revolved around Andre Johnson. Johnson, while
having struggled to get out of the gates in '08, has favorable matchup starting next week including Miami, Detroit, and the just-plain-awful Cincy Bengals. TCT hopes these matchups will get Johnson back on track, and the playmaker will score big points in the playoffs with an especially favorable matchup vs. Oakland. That's IF they get there...
Golden U, looking to add depth to their team top-to-bottom, will add two very talented young players in Turner and Holmes. Turner, currently ranked the #1 player in Yahoo! fantasy, has dominated weaker defenses, but has struggled on grass and against higher levels of competition. Holmes, who showed flashes of brilliance last year, brings another big play threat to the Gryphon Offense. His production is directly tied to Big Ben Roethlisberger, who Golden AD Mike Comtois has not been a big fan of.
Losing Johnson does make Comtois weary, saying "I know Johnson will stab me
in the back". TCT fans hope so. GU fans are now asking themselves, "who will start at RB, with Steven Jackson and Larry Johnson already on the roster?". Speculation around the conference is that one of these two are now on the trading block as well.
